Grandia I and II HD Coming Soon to Nintendo Switch
In a surprise reveal, GungHo Online Entertainment America has announced HD remasters for Grandia I and II. Both of these titles will be Nintendo Switch exclusives. Grandia I HD will also be available on Steam, but not Grandia II HD. Presumably, because Grandia II Anniversary edition is already present on Steam. The two games will come as a collection (on the Nintendo Switch) and is slated for a winter release this year.
Furthermore, Grandia II HD will be at PAX West in playable form. Players will get to check out a preview of the gameplay and see what new changes are coming. As of now, there are no details about what the developers intend to change with the remasters. This is also the first time either Grandia game will be on a Nintendo console. So, if you’ve been a Nintendo fan for the longest time, you have a brand new game to look forward to.
This generation has been bringing back plenty of classic titles to the spotlight. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and even Chrono Trigger got a Steam port. It’s awesome to see a lesser known game like Grandia get some attention and another chance at making a strong impact. Who knows, if it does well commercially, we may even get a new game. For now, it’s exciting enough that many people can finally enjoy an older JRPG for the first time. The only downside is that there is no news of Grandia HD coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And the fact that Steam won’t be receiving the second game is also curious, despite there being an older port. Why wouldn’t they want people to play the newer version?
Regardless, this is great news. Hopefully, we see older JRPGs get a modern release. I’ll always be hoping for Suikoden, even though it’s practically a dead IP thanks to Konami. Are there any other games you want to see make a comeback? Let us know in the comments!
