Final Fantasy XVI World And Character Details Revealed

Square Enix has launched the teaser website for their highly anticipated title, Final Fantasy XVI, and with it comes a bevy of new information regarding the world and some of the main characters. Final Fantasy XVI takes place in the world of Valisthea, a land that is filled with a number of Mothercrystals. Mothercrystals are described as “glittering mountains of crystal that tower over the realms around them, blessing them with aether.” Six different nations have grown around each of the Mothercrystals, with them all maintaining a longstanding uneasy peace. This peace is threatened though idue to something called the Blight that is spreading throughout Valisthea.

Featured in the reveal trailer were classic Final Fantasy summons Shiva, Ifrit, Phoenix, and Titan. Summons have been given different names throughout the franchise, and in Final Fantasy XVI they’re called Eikons. Eikons lie within a person called a Dominant, someone that can call upon an Eikon and use their power.

The website also offers some information about three of the characters in the game. First up is the game’s protagonist, Clive Rosfield. He’s the oldest son of the Archduke of Rosaria and the First Shield of Rosaria. Clive’s role is to protect the Phoenix, and as such he’s been given some of the Phoenix’s power. Next up is Clive’s younger brother, Joshua Rosfield, who is the Dominant of Phoenix. Unlike Clive, Joshua isn’t a fighter, instead having more of an interest in books. Finally, there’s Jill Warrick. She was born in the Northern Territories of Valisthea, but taken from her home when she was young to become a ward of Rosaria. She’s been raised alongside Clive and Joshua, making her as much of a family member as the two boys, as well as a trusted friend.

The game was first shown during the September PS5 event, revealing that the game would indeed be a PlayStation console exclusive. It’s nice to get a bit more information on the game since things have been pretty quiet following the announcement. We’ll have to wait a bit longer though to see more of what the team over at Square Enix has in store for their flagship franchise. In a short message on the website, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida says that the next big information drop will be coming sometime in 2021. All we can do now is theorize over what else the game has to show.
