Everything Announced In Today’s Nintendo Direct

Following yesterday’s announcement, today we got our first Nintendo Direct in almost a year and a half. It was a lengthy 50-minute show that was jam packed with game announcements and reveals, so let’s go through all the games that were shown off today.

Pyra and Mythra join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate kicked off the Nintendo Direct with a brand new character reveal. Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be joining the fighter next month. No release date or information about their movesets was given, so we’ll have to wait a little bit for that.

Mario Golf: Super Rush was announced

There was more Mario in today’s Nintendo Direct thanks to the announcement of Mario Golf: Super Rush. The new game features a story mode in which you can play as a Mii character you create, motion controls if you want the full golfing experience, and more. It releases in just a few months, on June 25th.

No More Heroes III got a new trailer and release date

At long last, No More Heroes III got a new trailer showing off some new gameplay, as well as an August 27th release date.

Square Enix announced a new tactical-RPG with the working title Project Triangle Strategy

Square Enix revealed a new game with the working title Project Triangle Strategy. The game shares the same type of art style as Octopath Traveler, but it’s not a straight forward RPG. It’s instead a tactical RPG, with battles being tactics based and a story that is heavily affected by the choices that you make. A demo is available to download now, and the game will release in 2022.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is getting an HD remaster for Switch

We got the announcement that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD would be coming to the Switch. The game was first released on the Wii back in 2011 and hasn’t seen a remaster since then, likely due to its heavy reliance on motion controls. This remaster of the game retains the motion controls of the original, but also features button controls that can take their place if you choose to play without them. It releases this Summer on July 16th. There unfortunately wasn’t any mention of the franchise’s 35th anniversary in today’s Nintendo Direct. We did however get the announcement of an expansion pass for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Series producer Eiji Aonuma also revealed that we’ll have to wait until later this year for news on the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Miitopia is making its way to the Switch

First released on the 3DS back in 2016 in Japan (2017 everywhere else), Miitopia is coming to the Switch. The Mii-based RPG will be released on May 21st.

A number of other games were announced too, and some got release dates

Bravely Default II

There were a lot of smaller announcements spread out in the Nintendo Direct. Bravely Default II got a new trailer and release date. Star Wars Hunters is a free-to-play multiplayer game coming later this year. The multiplayer dodgeball game Knockout City releases on May 21st. DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power comes out on June 4th. Two Famicom Detective Club games will be coming to Switch on May 14th. EA’s multiplayer titles Apex Legends and Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition hit the Switch on March 9th and March 19th respectively.

The critically acclaimed indie title Outer Wilds lands on the Switch sometime this Summer. An HD remaster of Legend of Mana will be coming on June 24th. SaGa Frontier Remastered will also be releasing on April 15th. Shadow Warriors 5 was announced and will be released this Summer. The Ninja Gaiden trilogy will be coming to Switch as the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection on June 10th. First-person action game Neon White was announced and will be releasing later this year. World’s End Club is a new game from the creator of Danganropa and it’ll be out on May 28th. Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse lands on March 16th, and Tales from the Borderlands hits on March 24th. Ghosts ’n Goblins Resurrection releases on 25th, whereas Capcom Arcade Stadium, a collection of classic Capcom arcade games, is available now.

Splatoon 3 was revealed

Splatoon 3 was the closer of the Nintendo Direct, revealing new hairstyles, weapons, and environments. The game won’t be out until 2022.

And that’s everything! It wasn’t the most impressive Nintendo Direct, but it wasn’t a bad one either. There’s a lot to look forward to from the company over the next couple months, so players should be occupied for some time as these games start to roll out.
