EA has announced that they have created Full Circle, a new game studio with the purpose of making the next Skate.
”We’re working on the next evolution of Skate, and set to deliver an experience that will embrace and build upon everything our community found special about the previous games.”
The studio is based out of Vancouver with team members from around the globe. They’re still staffing for the project, with multiple different positions open on their website, so it’s likely that we won’t be seeing anything from the game for quite some time.
The return of the Skate franchise was announced last year during EA Play by Cuz Parry and Deran Chung at the end of the showcase. At the time, all they had to say was that the game was very early in development, but thanked fans for their endless support in the years following the release of Skate 3 in 2010.
Skate fans have been on a long journey for the past couple years. The Skate franchise was an critically acclaimed rival to the popular Tony Hawk Pro Skater series thanks to its more complex control scheme that was different from the much more casual one used in the Tony Hawk series. The series eventually went away and EA shut down the servers for Skate 3 in 2016, much to the dismay of fans. All of this lead to calls for EA to bring it back the series back.
In 2018, the company brought the game’s servers back online, igniting hope and speculation amongst fans that a Skate 4 announcement would be soon to follow. Of course, they got their wish when this new entry was announced two years later. After waiting this long, hopefully they won’t have to wait too much longer to actually get their hands on the game.
Skate isn’t the only EA franchise that’s making a comeback. Mass Effect is also in the process of making a return, with a brand new game in the works, and a remastered collection of the original trilogy poised to come out very soon.
