E3 2021: Tekken’s Kazuya Joins Super Smash Bros Ultimate

The newest fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been revealed to Kazuya Mishima from the fighting series Tekken.

Kazuya’s reveal trailer opens with him dropping The Legend of Zelda villain Ganondorf into a volcano, which is a reference to how Kazuya did the very same thing to fellow his Tekken fighter (and father) Heihachi. He does the same thing to multiple other characters throughout the trailer including Captain Falcon and Marth. Though we didn’t get a deep dive into how Kazyua plays in, we did get to see some of his move set.

Kazuya brings over a lot of his Tekken moves to Super Smash Bros, with some of them being very combo heavy. This appears to be similar to how characters Ryu, Ken, and Terry had their move sets translated from their respective games to Ultimate. Kazuya also has a Devil Form that he can turn into, though it’s not entirely clear how this happens. The answer to these questions as well as when he will be added to the game will be revealed on June 28 when game director Masahiro Sakurai holds one of his character deep dive events for Kazuya at 7AM PT / 10AM ET.

Kazuya is the latest fighter to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of its second Fighters Pass. He’ll join Arms character Min-Min, Steve from Minecraft, Final Fantasy VII antagonist Sephiroth, and Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Only one more character slot remains in the second Fighters Pass, and it’s anyone’s guess who will fill it. Many are hoping for Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, Dante, or Doom Guy to join the game. I personally am hoping that Sora manages to squeak on in, but I doubt it’ll happen. No matter who it is, they should be out sometime before the end of the year.
