E3 2021: Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Announced

Today Square Enix announced Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin during their E3 showcase. A new spin-off of their classic franchise, the game is being developed in collaboration with Team Ninja, the developer behind the punishing action games Ninja Gaiden and Nioh.

Just going by the trailer, Stranger of Paradise has a more edgy and serious tone to its story. Reading the game’s description solidifies that idea: “Burning with the strong resolve to defeat Chaos and the memories of their struggle buried deep in their hearts Jack and his allies, Ash and Jed, throw open the gates to the Chaos Shrine. Yet doubts remain – are they truly the Warriors of Light the prophecy foretold?”

The footage in the trailer shows that the game is a more action-oriented game than any other in the franchise, akin to something you would see from a Souls game. This isn’t too surprising though given that Team Ninja is the developer behind Stranger of Paradise and they’re known for their fast paced action combat.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is set to release at some point in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. PlayStation 5 owners can play a demo of the game right now. This demo will only be available until June 24, so anyone interested in checking out the game doesn’t have too much time to waste.

If you aren’t interested in this Final Fantasy game, there’s no need to worry. The mainline series has a new entry coming soon with Final Fantasy XVI exclusively for PS5. We haven’t heard much about the game since last year, but we should be getting more information sometime soon. And if you just aren’t a Final Fantasy person at all, then perhaps the newly announced Guardians of the Galaxy game from Eidos-Montréal will appeal to you more.
