E3 2021: Forza Horizon 5 Revealed, Coming This November

Playground Games returned to the Microsoft stage this year with Forza Horizon 5, the newest entry in the highly acclaimed racing series, and announced that it’ll be releasing later this year on November 9. And since it’s an Xbox Game Studios title, it’ll be coming to PC day one and also are available through Game Pass upon release as well.

The latest game in the series, Forza Horizon 5 takes the Horizon Festival to Mexico and it looks absolutely stunning. Described by creative director Mike Brown as the “largest, most diverse open world in a Forza Horizon game”, driving across Mexico will take you to ancient ruins, jungles, deserts, and a snow-covered volcano that’s “the highest point ever in a Horizon game.” Changes are coming Horizon with characters in the campaign whose story missions you can decide the outcome of. Seasons return as well and are more dynamic, consistently changing the game world as you play.

Horizon Arcade adds mini-games that can be played on the fly in the open world. In the gameplay demo that was shown, we got to see some players do one where they had to drive around and smash piñatas that they found strewn about the area. The team also revealed a mode called Events Lab. Here, you can create your own events and activities with whatever rules you decide for them.

There was never any doubt that Forza Horizon 5 would impress, but it was arguably the most impressive thing to come out of the Xbox+Bethesda showcase today. It looks to be building on everything that Forza Horizon 4 such a fantastic game, which is all that anyone could ask for from the sequel. Also shown today was the multiplayer for Halo Infinite, the first in-engine trailer for Starfield, and an apocalyptic new game called Somerville.
