To celebrate the start of this year’s online-only iteration of QuakeCon, Bethesda has announced The Ancient Gods, Part One, the first of two campaign add-ons for DOOM Eternal. A short teaser trailer for the DLC can be viewed below.
A full trailer will be released during Opening Night Live on August 27 at 2pm ET. The Geoff Keighley-produced show will serve as a kickoff for gamescom 2020, which was also forced online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Back in March, Bethesda announced that DOOM Eternal had the best opening sales weekend in the history of the franchise. While the game was heavily anticipated after the critical and commercial success of 2016’s DOOM, the game’s sales were likely bolstered by the stay-at-home orders that were implemented worldwide to slow the spread of COVID-19. Medium reported that US video games sales surged from March through June as consumers sought quarantine-friendly forms of entertainment.
More recently, it was announced that owners of DOOM Eternal on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions free of charge. A release date for the next-gen upgrades was not announced.
