Diablo III: Eternal Collection Coming to Switch This Fall

Diablo III, the newest entry in the legendary action RPG franchise, will release on Nintendo Switch this fall. The announcement video can be viewed below:

The Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Switch will include the base game, Reaper of Souls expansion, and Rise of the Necromancer DLC. It will also feature some Legend of Zelda-themed cosmetic items, including a “Cucco companion pet, a Triforce portrait frame, and an exclusive transmogrification set that will let your heroes sport Ganondorf’s iconic armor. You’ll also receive unique cosmetic wings.”

Slaying demons with friends is a huge part of Diablo III‘s appeal, and the Switch version takes advantage of the system’s various multiplayer configurations. Four players can play together on a single Switch console, on four consoles via local wireless play, or through Nintendo Switch Online.

The launch of Diablo III on Switch is also significant because it ends a 15-year drought of Blizzard games on Nintendo platforms. The last one to see release was a Game Boy Advance port of The Lost Vikings in 2003.

Reaction to the announcement has been mostly positive, but not everyone is enthusiastic about another port of the game, which was initially released in 2012 on PC:

In a video released last week, Blizzard Community Manager Brandy Camel announced that multiple Diablo projects are in development, and hinted that they’ll be shown later in the year. Many suspected that one of those projects was Diablo III for Switch, but fans are really hoping for the reveal of the next true installment in the series. If that announcement does indeed happen this year, we’ll likely hear more during the opening ceremony at BlizzCon, which is taking place on November 2-3 in Anaheim, California. The event was previously sold out, but a third ticket sale was announced for August 18th.
