Deathloop Delayed, Will Now Ship in Q2 2021

Deathloop, the new game from Dishonored and Prey developer Arkane Studios, won’t be coming out until Q2 2021. The delay was announced via the game’s Twitter account.

The note from Arkane Lyon mentions that the development team has transitioned to working at home in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and that “delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal.”

Before the delay, Deathloop was slated to release this year on PC and on PS5 as a timed console exclusive. The length of the exclusivity window has not been revealed, so it could end up being quite a while before Xbox Series X owners get their hands on the game. Similar exclusivity deals, such as the one Microsoft received for Rise of the Tomb Raider, typically lock a game to one console for a year.

DEATHLOOP

Aside from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Deathloop was shaping up to be one of more intriguing titles set to release during the PS5’s launch window. The game puts players in the shoes of Colt, who has to battle a rival assassin while stuck in a time loop on the island of Blackreef. It remains to be seen what other titles end up supporting the launch of Sony’s new hardware, which is presumed to launch in November.
