The loop repeats itself again as Arkane Lyon and Bethesda’s Deathloop has received yet another delay. Fans will now have to wait until September 14, 2021 to get their hands on the game and break the cycle of delays.
“We’re committed to quality and preserving our team’s ambitions for Deathloop while ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Arkane,” said Game Director Dinga Bakaba and Art Director Sebastien Mitton in a statement released on Twitter. “We’ll be using this extra time to accomplish our goal: create a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience.”
“We apologize for the extended wait and thank you all for your passion and excitement. It is the furl that powers our creativity and hard work. We can’t wait to show you more Deathloop soon!”
This is the second delay that the game’s received. It was originally supposed to release last holiday season as a PS5 launch title, but was delayed to May 21. Though it’s sad to see the game get pushed back some more, it’s ultimately the best move for a couple reasons.
Although we don’t know much about what games will be coming out in September, moving Deathloop out of May gives it more room to breathe and a chance to have the spotlight on itself. Had it come out in May, it would’ve been competing for attention with games like Resident Evil Village and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. While Deathloop does have a lot of excitement and anticipation behind it, avoiding those two industry juggernauts is only for the best.
There’s also the COVID-19 pandemic and that’s affected developers. It’s undoubtedly impacted development on the game, so it’s best if the team takes their time finishing the game as opposed to crunching to try and get it out in May, only to end up in a Cyberpunk 2077 situation.
When it does release, Deathloop may be one of the last Bethesda games coming to PlayStation now that Microsoft has acquired the company. After this and Ghostwire: Tokyo, it’s looking unlikely that any other big titles from Bethesda will be making their way to Sony’s console. Fingers crossed that these two are high notes to go out on.
