Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding is finally out the first week of November, and developer Hideo Kojima premiered the final trailer during the first day of Paris Games Week this morning. Though we saw nearly an hour of gameplay for Death Stranding at Tokyo Game Show in September, this launch trailer is succinct, not only getting to the root of the game, but also giving us a better look into what has seemed like a confusing narrative ever since the game was revealed three years ago.
To say this final trailer is a lot to unpack would be an understatement, because similar to Kojima’s long-running Metal Gear series, this Death Stranding trailer is brimming with spoilers (if you know what you’re looking at, since hardly anything has context), epic music, and intense action/gameplay sequences. It’s information overload, in the best possible way. We got a clear look at some of the primary characters, played by Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Lindsay Wagner, and more.
During those 8 minutes, we also got a better look at some of the major story details of Death Stranding and the mission that awaits players when they finally get their hands on the game. Between scenes Norman Reedus’ character Sam and some bleak environmental shots, the trailer invites players to “Rejoin life and death…Unite the divided…On a journey to reconnect the world.” The game’s tagline of “Tomorrow is in your hands” is one that will probably also stick with players as they begin their journey with the game.
Death Stranding launches exclusively on PlayStation 4 on November 8th. Check out the epic launch trailer below. The song, BB’s Theme by Ludvig Forssell, is now available to stream.
