Days Gone Sequel Plans Rejected By Sony
If you were hoping for more adventures with Deacon St. John, you might not be getting your wish since plans on for a Days Gone sequel have seemingly been shut down.
According to a Bloomberg report detailing Sony’s emphasis on blockbuster titles, “people familiar with the proposal” said that developer Sony Bend first pitched their plans for a sequel back in 2019 after the first game released. But due to the original game’s long development and mixed critical reception, Sony didn’t see a sequel as “a viable option.”
The team was then moved over to help Naughty Dog work on a new Uncharted game and a multiplayer game. This decision wasn’t liked by many at the studio, leading to some staff (including leads) leaving the company. Out of fear that they would become part of Naughty Dog, leadership at Bend asked to be removed from the Uncharted project, which they were granted. They’re now working on their own new IP.
While Days Gone wasn’t the biggest hit critically, it did do pretty well commercially, ending up as one of the best selling PlayStation games in 2019. It’s game that has a lot of fans, so it seemed reasonable that Sony would possibly let Bend get a chance to make a sequel that ironed out the first game’s rough spots. The company denying plans for a sequel though puts a damper on those hopes.
There may still be a chance though for Days Gone to get new life. The game will soon be coming to PC where it will find a brand new set of fans and get even more sales. Perhaps if it performs well enough there, Sony Bend could find success with a second pitch for the sequel. If it’s something they want, the fans will have to come out to show their support for the game later this Spring.
