Days Gone is Delayed Again, Gets Spring 2019 Release Date

Sony has announced that Days Gone, the PS4-exclusive open world zombie title from Bend Studio, will now release on April 26, 2019.

The news was included in a post on the PlayStation Blog that provided updates on several games in development at PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios. According to SIEA Marketing Vice President Asad Qizilbash, the delay will provide Bend with more time to polish the title. Days Gone is the Oregon-based studio’s first PS4 game and only release since Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which released on the PlayStation Vita back in 2011.

Qizilbash also mentions that the delay will move the game out of “the crowded February timeframe,” which is sure to help its sales performance. Days Gone was delayed to 2019 in March, but once Sony revealed its February 22 release date at E3, several publishers did the same for their AAA titles. Had Sony not delayed the game to April it would have released on the same date as EA’s Anthem and Deep Silver’s Metro Exodus. Microsoft’s oft-delayed Crackdown 3 is also scheduled for a February 2019 release on Xbox One, but a specific date hasn’t been announced.

It will be hard to determine if the game’s delay shifts Sony’s overall release schedule in any noticeable fashion. At E3 the publisher did deep dives on Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding, and Ghost of Tsushima, and while Spider-Man was released last month, the remaining three titles haven’t received official release dates.

The delay could have also played a part in Sony’s decision to not hold PSX this year. SIE Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden mentioned that the company “wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together” as it is working hard to prepare its 2019 titles for release.
