Some Cyberpunk 2077 players are dealing with a nasty bug that is corrupting save files if they surpass 8MB in size. Users in a thread on the game’s official forums were discussing difficulties with loading their save files when user HiroTsukamoto linked to an official GOG support post that confirmed the issue. At the moment, developer CD Projekt Red’s workaround is to “use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.”
Feedback in the thread was coming from PC customers, so it’s unclear if the bug also affects the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Criticism for the issue has been swift, with some players saying that they’re afraid to continue playing the game because they might lose all of their progress. CD Projekt Red states that “the save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches.”
Cyberpunk 2077, which initially released on December 10, has had one of the most disastrous game launches in recent memory. All versions of the title are riddled with bugs and it runs rather poorly on base model PS4 and Xbox One consoles, a problem which did not come to light until after the game was made available to the public. Developer/publisher CD Projekt Red has committed to fixing known issues with upcoming patches, but also told gamers to request a refund of their copy if they were not satisfied with the situation. In a somewhat unprecedented move, Sony has pulled the game from the PlayStation Store and is honoring refunds for all digital PS4 copies. Microsoft is also offering refunds for digital Xbox One copies, but at the time of this writing, the game is still available for purchase on the Microsoft Store.
