CD Projekt Red to Begin Development on New Game After Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red might be getting ready to launch its long-awaited game Cyberpunk 2077 later this year, but the Polish developer is already gearing up for its next major, single-player title. The surprising news comes from Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt Red; and while this new game won’t be The Witcher 4, it still might be a Witcher game.

During a Polish conference, Kiciński explained that the CD Projekt Red team has been “working on a next single-player game already, creating a clear concept that waits for further development.” As far as a timeline, Kiciński said the team will start working on the game “right after Cyberpunk 2077”.

In December 2019, CD Projekt Red signed a deal with Andrzej Sapkowski, creator and author of The Witcher novels. Although there will be no Witcher 4- Kiciński has been firm that The Witcher is a trilogy- it’s highly likely that the developer is looking to make more games in The Witcher universe. Those games could be prequels, or could focus on entirely different characters. To highlight the possibility of this happening, Kiciński said “we’ve always emphasized that we want to create Witcher games, and the agreement with Mr. Sapkowski confirmed our rights.”

Whatever is in the works, it’s exciting to think this could be CD Projekt Red’s first next-gen game.

As far as Cyberpunk 2077 is concerned, the game is still on track to release on September 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
