Capcom Shipped 3 Million Units of Resident Evil 2 in First Week
Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2 released on January 25th, and the game is already off to an impressive start, having sold 3 million copies, globally, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For the sake of comparison, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard sold 2.5 million copies in its first week of release and later reached a cumulative of 6 million units sold. Capcom says it’s expecting similar success with the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Originally released in 1998 for PlayStation, Resident Evil 2 achieved cumulative sales of 4.96 units, making it the fourth best-selling game in the long-running franchise. The remake was built from the ground-up, and offers a fresh take on this classic, survival horror game for old and new fans alike.
What’s more, long before it was even released, Capcom was confident that the Resident Evil 2 remake would sell incredibly well. Last summer during an investor Q&A, the company revealed it was confident that Resident Evil 2 would reach the “million-seller class of titles”. They also teased the possibility developing more remakes from their library of titles.
Resident Evil 2 is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
