Animal Crossing Adds Fireworks, Dreams, and Island Backups

Nintendo has revealed what will be coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the game’s next free summer update, starting July 30. Firework shows will be taking place every Sunday night throughout the month of August at 7PM. During the firework shows, you can redeem Bells for some festive raffle prizes such a bubble blowers and sparklers. Players can also use their own custom designs for the fireworks that are used during the show.

Dreams are another new addition that will be coming to New Horizons with the update. When you lie down in your bed, you will now have the option to take a nap where you will be greeted by Luna. She’ll allow you to travel to the dream version of another player’s island, or open yours up to other players, so long as you all have the required Dream Address. When on a player’s dream island, you can explore it and do whatever you want. Anything done to the island in the dream is not permanent, meaning it doesn’t persist once you leave the dream island.

Last but not least is the Island Backup and Restoration service, something that Animal Crossing players have wanted since the game first launched. If you are a Nintendo Switch Online member, you can enable this service which will automatically upload island and user save data at certain times. If your Switch is ever lost or damaged and you had this service enabled, you can use this service to restore everything you had on your island and continue progressing in the game once you get your new console.

Nintendo notes that this service is different from the Save Data Cloud functionality that is offered for other games. A system that is specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be available later this year that allows players to transfer their user and island data from one console to another.

The video ended with a tease for a Fall update coming to the game, showing a carved pumpkin, most likely hinting at a Halloween themed update. Animal Crossing’s first summer update added the ability to swim in the ocean and dive for sea creatures, as well as new furniture to create and a new interaction with Gulliver.
