Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Will Release in 2019
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey propels us 10 million years back in time to humanity’s origins. The aim is to explore, survive and evolve.
Panache Digital Games was created in 2014, and Ancestors is the team’s first project. It was initally announced in 2015 by Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets, and set for release in 2019.
Earlier this month, Panache confirmed it will be shown at the Game Awards 2018.
The trailer shows four phases of our ancestors’ development. 10 million years ago, an ape swings between trees, but falls and is attacked by a big snake. The timeline jumps some million years later to a troop of apes fleeing from a crocodile. However, they manage to escape. Time jumps again to 4 million years ago. A bipedal, more hominid ape with an infant on its back uses a primitive ‘spear-like’ weapon to kill a boar. Finally, about 2.9 million years ago, a hunting party kill a saber-toothed cat.
It’s an open-world survival game that opens up as our ancestors evolve. The player gains new physical skills and tools during the evolution process. Therefore, knowledge is passed down through each generation. You decide which attributes the species keeps, how they evolve intellectually and physically. Therefore, the tribe can grow and claim new territory.
Panache markets the game as a brand new twist on the survival genre, saying “Humanity is one idea away from evolution or extinction.”
Ancestors: Humankind Odessey will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
