Among the Sleep Dev Explores Office Horrors with Mosaic

Krillbrite Studio’s new IP may be a departure in genre from the developer’s horror game, Among the Sleep (2014), but fans will still be able to find an unsettling tone in the form of work-related stress and social anxiety with Mosaic.

Throughout the trailer for Mosaic, we see a man tend to his basic, day-to-day activities, seemingly on autopilot- everything from brushing his teeth, to riding an escalator, to waiting to cross the street exemplifies the horrors of office boredom and adulthood. Each scene showcases the unexciting repetition that most people can relate to during the work week, and to reference Vaas from Far Cry 3, it’s the perfect definition of “insanity”.

The teaser quickly picks up momentum as the camera zooms closer on each scene (turns out, watching someone brush their teeth can become quite creepy). Odd things soon begin to happen, until the normal day at the office completely dissolves into confusion and chaos.

Puzzles and narrative elements serve as the foundation of gameplay for Mosaic. According to Krillbrite, “our goal is to focus on stories, creating experiences that enriches the player.”

Based on the trailer and screenshots alone, the game looks beautifully made, with gray and black color schemes effectively giving the theme of office repetition an unnerving quality that is simultaneously intriguing.

Though it’s not the same genre as Among the Sleep, it will be interesting to see how (or if) Krillbrite Studios encourages the same level of player exploration with Mosaic, or if it will be heavy-handed with the puzzles instead. Either way, the game looks promising, if not completely relatable, and its dark aesthetic is reminiscent of Playdead’s hugely popular title, InsideYou can watch the teaser trailer for Mosaic below.

Mosaic is slated for a 2018 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux. A price has not yet been set for the game. Keep checking LoadingXP for more developments.
