The Hole Story of Donut County is Coming This August

I’m more excited about Donut County than the average person. So much in fact, the game was included in the post, 5 Indie Games to be Excited about in 2018There’s just something about playing as hole in the ground and swallowing up objects to create new objects that’s intriguing. Call me easily amused, I suppose. After a couple trailers and several awards, including the Independent Games Finalist and IndieCade 2015 Winner, the quirky indie title Donut County finally has a release date.

Developer Ben Esposito took to the PlayStation Blog to make the official announcement and also to remind us what the game is actually about, saying: “It’s a game about raccoons who use holes to steal people’s trash. It’s a real passion project.” The premise may seem simplistic, if not even a little silly to those who haven’t been following its development, but seeing Donut County in action is, in a sense, mesmerizing.

The physics puzzler has you playing as a hole in the ground that swallows objects and becomes bigger. In the trailer shown at PlayStation Experience 2017, for example, you can swallow fire to create smoke in the hole, which can then power a hot air balloon. Ben Esposito goes into more detail on the Blog about the narrative that’s holding this *hole* thing together, mentioning a raccoon named BK and his friend Mira who work in a donut shop that’s actually a front for the trash-stealing Raccoon Company. It’s a lot to unpack, and that’s just the beginning.

Get the entire story when Donut County releases on August 28th in the PlayStation Store and Steam. Pre-orders are available right now.
