October is absolutely packed in terms of major game releases. Not only are we approaching the ten-year anniversary of one of the industry’s biggest franchises, but we’re also getting one particular title just in time for the Halloween season, and also seeing the return of everyone’s favorite overall-wearing plumber. If you need help keeping track of gaming’s biggest October releases, LoadingXP has you covered; but brace your wallets, because they’re about to take some serious damage.
Treat your Xbox One to something nice this fall with Forza Motorsport 7. This game looks stunning. Turn 10 Studios has completely re-imagined Forza, from mastering the new motorsport-inspired campaign to putting in a wide and diverse range of cars, including the largest collection of Porsches and Ferraris. Push your driving skills to the limit at the beginning of October and experience the thrill of racing in 4K. Forza Motorsport 7 will also be available for the Xbox One X in November.
Continue the story of Talion and Celebrimbor in this sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Shadow of War finds Talion and Celebrimbor having to venture behind enemy lines to forge an army and confront the Dark Lord, Sauron. This epic, open-world promises massive battles, new enemies, and an experience that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
Bethesda has not been holding back when it comes to the promotion of The Evil Within 2. Just in time for Halloween (and releasing on Friday the 13th, no less), this sequel will take fans into a new STEM world known as The Union, a world that looks even more terrifying than what we encountered in the first game. Detective Sebastian Castellano will face unimaginable evils trying to rescue his daughter, Lily, before it’s too late and before The Union collapses with her inside.
From the introduction of driver profiles like ‘Driver Rating’ and ‘Sportsmanship Rating’, to advanced online match-making, to capturing images with a new feature known as Scrapes, Gran Turismo has been completely built from the ground up for PlayStation 4 and boasts the most realistic racing experience ever.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole was initially scheduled for release last fall but was ultimately delayed until mid-October of this year. Build your superpowers and craft your own superhero origin story in a game that is sure to be equal parts outrageous and fun, delivering the type of experience only the creators of South Park can.
PC gamers are just a few weeks away from experiencing the sequel that crashed Bungie’s servers. Destiny 2 released to positive reviews at the beginning of September and the game made great improvements from the first one, especially in terms of adding a solid narrative to the expansive lore of the Destiny universe. The opening sequence, “Homecoming” captured both an intensity and beauty that I haven’t experienced in a while in games, first-person shooter or otherwise. Destiny 2 is definitely worth getting your hands on if you haven’t played it already. The gorgeous soundtrack is also worth another listen. Or two.
This is going to be a huge one. There were rumors circulating about Assassin’s Creed Origins months before it was finally revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2017 conference. Needless to say, fans were excited, even when it was announced that Origins would be ditching some familiar gameplay mechanics in favor of giving the game a fresh look and feel. Though it seems like we’ve been all over the world with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, this new game is pushing uncharted territory and taking us to ancient Egypt, putting us in the midst of some of history’s greatest figures like Cleopatra. Assassin’s Creed took a noticeable year off in 2016, and instead of a new game, we got that Assassin’s Creed movie that hurts my soul to even discuss. Now, Ubisoft has returned to the series just in time for its ten-year anniversary. Don’t miss the week-long celebration of Assassin’s Creed here at LoadingXP, where we will break down some of the best moments from the series and discuss everything Origins.
Mario is back! This time, he is collecting objects known as Power Moons to power up his ship known as “The Odyssey” and save Peach from Bowser’s wedding plans. Mario’s got some brand new moves that should add some flair to the traditional ‘run and jump’ style of gameplay that fans have been accustomed to for years. Foil wedding plans and explore some new locations in the process. Don’t forget to pass the Switch’s Joy-Con to a friend so they can share the fun.
Bethesda’s having a busy season. Wolfenstein II is picking up right after the events of the previous game where the Nazis won World War II, a battle which left Blazkowicz badly injured. When he awakens in The New Colossus, his new mission will be to rebuild the rebellion and liberate America from the Nazi control, ultimately inciting the second American Revolution.
