We are officially in the busiest season for the game releases. October is jam-packed, so we’ve compiled a list of the games you definitely want to be marking off on your calendars.
Week I: October 1 – 7
The first week of October kicked off with several notable games, setting a great precedent for the month ahead. Forza Horizon 4 has been lauded as the best racing game of the generation, while Ubisoft just released the next game in the evolving franchise of Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be receiving a wealth of post-launch content, including two large story arcs with three episodes each.
Week II: October 8 – 14
The second week of the month will be coming to a close with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The 200th latest game in the franchise has added a massive battle royale component, more zombies, and promises a “gritty, grounded, and fluid multiplayer combat”. The game is currently available for pre-order, and players can choose between the standard game, the Digital Deluxe Edition, or the Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition.
Another notable mention is Child of Light, from developer Ubisoft Montreal, will be making its debut on the Switch. The hand-drawn game, which features challenging, turn-based combat originally released on consoles and PC in 2014.
Week III: October 15 – 21
It’s a good week for Nintendo Switch owners. This week sees a remastered version of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls being ported to the Nintendo Switch, along with the full three games releasing on consoles. Publisher Bandai Namco has clarified the bundle release PS4 and Xbox One, stating that it is only launching in the United States and Asia. Switch players can also play the highly-acclaimed puzzler, The Room, which originally released on iOS devices in 2012.
Week IV- End of Month: October 22-31
We’ve reached the end of the month, where we’ll finally get our hands on one of the most anticipated releases of the last few years- Red Dead Redemption 2. Set in 1899, twelve years before the first game, we’ll play as Arthur Morgan who is a member of the Dutch Van der Linde’s gang. With lawmen and bounty hunters constantly on their heels, the Van der Linde gang will have to fight and survive their way across the wild west; and Arthur will be forced to make choices that test his loyalty to the gang.
The last week of the month will also see the launch of the first DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man, entitled “The Heist”. This first chapter of Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps features new challenges, missions, and it also spotlights Black Cat, who is back in Manhattan to mess with Spider-Man.
