Until Dawn Dev Announces The Dark Pictures Anthology, Coming 2019

Supermassive Games, the developer behind the hit PlayStation 4 exclusive Until Dawn, revealed a new dose of horror is finally on the way. Today at Gamescom, the team announced The Dark Pictures Anthology, which will be a series of intense standalone horror games. While Supermassive have made spinoff titles in the Until Dawn universe, like Rush of Blood and The Inpatient, this is the first time we’re seeing an anthology and episodic-type game from the developers; and unlike Until Dawn and its subsequent games, The Dark Pictures Anthology will not be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

The first game in The Dark Pictures Anthology is entitled “Man of Medan”, and it’s due for release some time in 2019. According to the official description from Supermassive Games, “Man of Medan” begins on a boat in the South Pacific. “With a rumored WWII wreck to find, and plenty of on-deck partying to be had, our group of four young Americans and their skipper Fliss get ready for what should be the trip of a lifetime…but it doesn’t go quite to plan.”

In true, Supermassive Games fashion, the horror elements will start to make themselves present, as the young characters are trapped on the ship and find that it’s actually haunted. The developer goes on to explain how the characters will be subjected to unimaginable stress and horror, while they attempt to escape. Each game in the anthology is designed to be re-playable and will contain storylines that branch in different directions. Players’ decisions will decide which characters live or die, with any combination of them surviving the ship.

The Dark Pictures Anthology will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Right now, it hasn’t been announced how many games there will be in the anthology, but we’re reaching out to Supermassive Games for comment. Check out the reveal trailer for “Man of Medan” below.
