Ubisoft Announces Huge Expansion Plans with Two New Studios

Today Ubisoft announced its plans to open Ubisoft Saguenay, a new studio in Quebec, Canada. The Assassin’s Creed developer and publisher said this will be part of a plan to focus on significantly increasing its regional operations, and the new studio will open in early 2018 with a focus on driving the company’s online services and technologies.

The numbers unveiled in the press release today detail just how large the expansion aims to be, with the studio growing to “125 employees within 5 years, which represents direct regional investments from Ubisoft of $135M by 2027.” CEO of Ubi Montreal, Quebec, and Toronto studios, Yannis Mallat, is also putting a large amount of faith in the new studio, “entrusting Ubisoft Saguenay with a mandate that is resolutely focused on the future” and the online game experience that connects millions of players each day. In addition to Saguenay, the company also plans to develop its regional expansion even further and open another studio in the Province of Quebec by 2027.

The press release also detailed the company’s “renewed confidence in Quebec” and how the publisher has plans to invest more than half a billion dollars in Saguenay and create up to 1,000 new jobs in the next ten years. After this large growth phase, Ubisoft expects to have nearly five-thousand employees and “will have made direct investments in Quebec totaling $9B since 1997. The expansion doesn’t stop there, though. Ubisoft has also developed a plan to invest in education, applied university research, and start-ups companies with a focus on technology.

Though Ubisoft Saguenay doesn’t plan to open its doors until next year, the studio is already hiring and looking to build a diverse and multi-talented team.
