It appears as if the Silent Hill franchise is coming back soon with two new games reportedly being in development. The subject of the franchise’s return has popped back up because of an interview that Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team (The Medium), did with GamesIndustry.biz about the company’s future. When speaking about plans that Bloober Team has for their future games, Piotr teased one project in particular.
“In fact, we’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.”
This has added to speculation that a new Silent Hill game is in the works at Bloober Team. YouTube channel TheGrateDebate also released a video in which they lay out evidence supporting this theory, and they make a very strong case. On top of that, there have also been rumors that Konami was going to be bringing the franchise back in the near future.
If reports are to be believed though, Bloober Team’s Silent Hill game isn’t the only one in the works. According to VGC, Konami has already asked a “prominent Japanese developer” to create a new game in the series, and it will be revealed this summer. VGC’s sources say that the Japanese developed game is to be a departure from past Silent Hill games. Konami initially reached out to Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games for the project, but a deal couldn’t be made.
Silent Hill isn’t the only Konami franchise that VGC has heard about. They’ve also heard from their sources that Konami is planning on reaching out to other developers to create new games in the Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid franchises, but those games are years away from release.
Fans have been clamoring for a new Silent Hill game ever since a playable teaser for a new game in the series by Hideo Kojima was released in 2014. The teaser was critically acclaimed, but was unfortunately cancelled, leaving many gamers disappointed. If these reports end up being true, fans won’t have to wait too long to return to the iconic town of Silent Hill.
