Yesterday, Telltale released the official trailer for The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and die hard fans of the series may want to watch it with a tissue in hand. In the trailer, Telltale hit all the right emotional notes in an attempt to prepare us for the beginning of the end this coming Tuesday. In the trailer, there is a big nod to Lee Everett, protagonist from the very first season, as Clementine reflects on the things Lee taught her; most notably, “how to say goodbye.”
A few weeks ago in a developer blog post, Telltale wrote how Clementine and AJ would find shelter in a secluded school. We seem to have gotten a better look at that school in yesterday’s trailer, as one of the kids Clementine meets can be heard saying, “Welcome to Erickson’s Boarding School for Troubled Youth.” There is a diverse cast of characters, all of whom are Clementine’s age, which makes it the first time in a long time she’s had same-age companions. The teenagers welcome Clementine and AJ into their group, but there is still an eerie vibe to the whole thing. And if you know Telltale, you will undoubtedly go into the first episode with your guard all the way. Not to mention, there is a “leader” of this group, who is bound to give Clementine a few problems.
Things escalate in the trailer quickly, with walkers attacking, buildings exploding, and AJ drawing his gun. Tensions are high, and threats are mounting, and it culminates in Clementine explaining how Lee was the first person who taught her about survival.
Be sure to check out the full trailer below, along with our impressions from the demo here. The first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 14.
