Square Enix Heads to Gamescom with Explosive Lineup, Here’s What to Expect

Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, Germany is just a couple weeks away, and Square Enix is not holding back on its heavy lineup of upcoming titles to show off at the big event. Here is what you can expect to see around the Square Enix booths.

  • Kingdom Hearts III

The third major installment in the series had a huge showing at E3 2018, appearing at both Sony and Microsoft’s showcases, and (of course) Square Enix’s. With a release date set for January 29, 2019, it’s only right that we’ll see more of Kingdom Hearts III at Gamescom. So far the team at Square Enix and the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura have been tight-lipped about the finer details of KH III, both in terms of story and commenting on the new characters and worlds we’ve seen thus far. We’re bound to get a little more information out of Gamescom, and according to a press release from Square Enix, there will be two playable demos of the game, which even includes a boss battle. Until then, check out every confirmed world in Kingdom Hearts III.

  • Life is Strange 2

We’re inching closer to the September 27th release of Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2, with a full reveal of the game coming on August 20th. This is just one day before Gamescom kicks off, and developer DONTNOD will be there with new details about the game. So far, we don’t know too much about Life is Strange 2, save for the dark teaser DONTNOD revealed last week, and that the young protagonist from The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will somehow be involved with the narrative. The first season of Life is Strange will also be playable during Gamescom.

  • Final Fantasy XIV Online

Final Fantasy XIV Online returns to Gamescom for another year, and attendees can compete in challenges and win prizes. Square Enix will be offering a special promo for those registering at the booth, giving them free copies of Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition.

  • Just Cause 4

We’ve barely heard anything out of Just Cause 4 since its full reveal at Microsoft’s E3 2018 showing. Set in the (fictional) open world of Solis, South Africa, Rico’s returning to take down the Black Hand. He is going up against a woman named Gabriela Morales who, according to Avalanche Studios, will be Rico’s most “fierce, capable, and unpredictable adversary yet.”Just Cause 4

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider

It seems every time you look up, there is new information coming out about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, either in the form of gameplay trailers, actual trailers, interviews, etc., that I’m starting to wonder if there will be any surprises when the game officially releases on September 14th. It’s been Tomb Raider overload since the game was announced back in March, through E3 2018, and the recent news the game has just gone gold. Square Enix may be beating a dead horse by showing off even more of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but we can’t say we’re not excited.

Gamescom will be held in Cologne, Germany from August 21-25. Which games are you most looking forward to from Square Enix?
