Sony Postpones PlayStation 5 Event

Today, Sony announced via Twitter that it would postpone the digital PlayStation 5 event that was originally scheduled for Thursday, June 4th.

“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games,” the statement reads, “we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.” The announcement comes in the wake of nation-wide unrest and protests, due to police brutality in the U.S. and the death of George Floyd.

The official PlayStation Twitter also sent out a tweet this morning denouncing “systemic racism and violence against the Black community”, with a vow to “continue to work towards a future marked by empathy and inclusion” and to “stand with our Black creators, players, employees, families, and friends.”

The PlayStation 5 event that was planned for later this week was going to be an hour long, and was meant to reveal some of the games, both AAA and indie, that will be coming to Sony’s next-gen console. At the time of this article, the company has not announced a new date for the event.

The PlayStation 5 is still on target to launch holiday 2020.
