In a press release yesterday, Dontnod Entertainment announced that Vampyr will be getting two new game modes later this summer for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
The new modes will add even more replayability for those who have already completed the game, and will offer more options for players who haven’t yet experienced the narrative-driven RPG. The introduction of a “Story” mode will put a lower emphasis on combat, while a fine-tuned Hard mode will prove to be a challenge even for the most confident players.
Set in early 20th century London, Vampyr puts players in the shoes of newly-turned vampyr, Dr. Jonathan Reid, who must find a cure for the ill citizens while struggling with the decision to feed on those he’s supposed to heal. Similar to Dontnod’s previous game, Life is Strange, Vampyr also benefits from a choice-based gameplay system, as Dr. Reid’s actions will define the city of London for better or worse.
According to Dontnod, the new Story mode will place a greater focus on Dr. Reid’s journey through London without the hassle of grueling combat. On the other side of the spectrum, the intensified Hard mode will provide less experience from killing enemies and will force players to seek out more citizens to “embrace” (bite). But be warned- doing so can quickly throw a particular region into chaos.
In celebration of the update, Vampyr is currently available at 25% off price on Steam and in the PS Store for the PlayStation Store Summer.
