Today Microsoft announced that two titles from Konami’s classic horror series, Silent Hill, are now backward compatible on Xbox One- Silent Hill: HD Collection and Silent Hill Homecoming. Technically it’s three titles, considering the HD Collection, which was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, contain remastered versions of Silent Hill 2 (2001) and Silent Hill 3 (2003).
This will be a great chance for those who haven’t experienced these three installments in the series to finally see what the fuss is about. Granted, the second game is more well-received than the third, and I know some folks who like to pretend Homecoming even doesn’t exist.
Silent Hill 2 picks up after the events of the first game, but isn’t really considered a sequel. It follows James Sunderland, who receives a letter from his wife, Mary- a letter that brings him to Silent Hill, where he beings to unravel the mysteries of the town. The only problem, May’s been dead for years.
The third game takes place nearly twenty years after the events of the original game. In this one, players are put in the shoes of Heather Mason, a teenage girl who wakes up in an amusement park and soon finds herself wrapped in the eerie happenings around Silent Hill. Heather soon discovers she has more of a connection to the town than she first realized.
Silent Hill is classic, and the HD Collection and Homecoming are definitely worth returning to, or checking out for the first time via Xbox One backward compatibility. Maybe that will help us forget Konami doesn’t have plans to remaster the original game…
For reference, you can check out the full list of games that are currently backward compatible on Xbox One. The two Silent Hill titles are the only new ones as of this week, but other games added this month include, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD and Dante’s Inferno.
