PS4 Early Access Items for Red Dead Redemption 2 Revealed
We’ve known for a while that PS4 players would get early access to some content in Red Dead Redemption 2, but today, a post on the PlayStation Blog gave us specifics on what that entails.
When the game launches on October 26th, PS4 players will be able to equip Arthur Morgan with the Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit in the game’s story mode. The outfit will also be available for use in Red Dead Online, which is currently slated to launch as a public beta in November. Anyone who purchases Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 or Xbox One will have access to the beta.
The remaining three items will only be usable in Red Dead Online. The Red Chestnut Arabian Horse is “a class above most horses you would find in the wild, with performance a step up from the first tier of available horses.” Players will also get an Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle, which provides health and stamina boosts to any horse it’s equipped to. The last item is the High Roller Double-Action Revolver, a gun with stylish engravings and a “superior, quick rate of fire over all other revolvers.”
The blog post mentions that PS4 players will have exclusive access to these items for 30 days, and presumably, Xbox One players will have be able to snag them after that.
In an age where console makers are courting third party publishers for exclusive content in their games, Red Dead Redemption 2’s implementation seems relatively harmless. It’s a far cry from what we’ve seen from the Call of Duty series in the past, where new maps were exclusive to Xbox or PlayStation owners for 30 days, depending on the game. That recently changed with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, where PS4 players will get early access to maps for one week.
