Red Dead Redemption 2 Now on PC, Broken at Launch

Rockstar’s western, open-world Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on PC nearly one year after its launch on consoles. The PC version of the game touts a range of graphical and technical enhancements that add more detail to the world, the navigation through it, and to the story of Arthur Morgan and the outlaws of the Van der Linde gang.

The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 contains a host of features and technical enhancements, including HDR support, “the ability to run high-end display setups with 4K resolution, multi-monitor configurations, widescreen configurations, faster frame rates and more.” Updates that are available in Red Dead 2’s story mode on PC include:

  • 3 New Bounty Hunter Missions
  • 2 New Gang Hideouts
  • 4 New Weapons
  • 5 New Trinkets
  • 2 New Treasure Maps
  • 4 New Horses and 3 horse variations

For more about the story mode updates, you can read the full details here.

While the technical and story mode enhancements should have been great bonuses for PC users who are finally getting their hands on Red Dead Redemption 2, the experience of playing it hasn’t been so smooth, as many players have been reporting dropped frame rates, freezing, impossibly long loading screens, and more.

To address the growing issues on PC, Rockstar has released general troubleshooting notes and recommends that PC users update their video card drivers:

NVIDIA owners should update their graphics driver version to 44.12 or above in the GeForce Experience app, or manually using this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

AMD owners should update their graphics driver version to 19.11.1 or above in the Radeon Software app, or manually using this link:

Those using Windows 10 might also try to temporarily disable their antivirus software. Other troubleshooting suggestions include updating the Rockstar Games Launcher and clearing the details in your Rockstar Games Launcher profile. Rockstar Games also detailed release notes about miscellaneous features that have now been patched. Let us know how (or if) you’ve resolved any issues you’ve been having with the game on PC.
