PUBG Won’t be Coming to PS4 Anytime Soon

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has seen its fair share of technical problems since it released last year, but that hasn’t affected the game’s popularity or its continued expansion. It was one of the most explosive games (no pun intended) of 2017, and the developer, PUBG Corp., is quickly garnering international acclaim. PUBG launched back in March as an Early Access on Steam, with the Xbox One version following shortly after. In just a week of its console release, the game surpassed one million copies sold. To date, PUBG has exceeded 3 million concurrent players. The success and immense popularity left many PlayStation fans wondering when, or if, the game would ever be available on PS4. The answer? Not anytime soon, unfortunately.

In a recent interview with Inven Global, PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim explained, “As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.” In other words, PS4 gamers shouldn’t hold their breath.

In the midst of the popularity, Kim, like the PUBG community, understands the game still has a long way to go. When the mention of PUBG’s wins at the Game Awards came up, along with its nomination for Game of the Year, Kim seemed humbled by it, but it also seemed to keep the game in perspective, saying “When we had interviews with the press, we told them that we are not looking for the GOTY as there are many AAA games such as the Legend of Zelda and Horizon Zero Dawn. It’s obvious that PUBG is not an AAA game.” He continued, saying, “It’s true that many players love and enjoy playing it, but it’s not completed and there are still many bugs.”

Despite Kim acknowledging this, something has to be said for a game that’s taking the industry by storm with its host of imperfections. PUBG has definitely shaken up the battle royale genre, and with the development being largely community-driven, it’s only going to get better with time.
