This morning Bloober Team announced The Medium, a new psychological horror game to follow this developer’s strong lineup of horror titles. Bloober Team is no stranger to the genre, having developed cult classics like Observer, Layers of Fear, and, most recently, Blair Witch. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that The Medium already looks terrifying.
Revealed today during the Inside Xbox live stream, The Medium is set in two worlds: the real world of Kraków, Poland during the late 80s and the spirit world, or “The Second World”, as it was referred to by one of the developers. We’ll play as a medium named Marianne, who is able to navigate between both worlds but is haunted by one vision in particular that she must confront. Marianne’s journey eventually leads her to an abandoned hotel, where she’ll have to work to uncover the connection she has to it and the tragedy that happened there.
The trailer immediately gives off Silent Hill vibes, with its gray, heavily-fogged environment and also because of the ash we see peeling away from old buildings and monuments. Speaking of Silent Hill, the franchise’s legendary composer Akira Yamaoka will compose the soundtrack for The Medium, alongside Arkadiusz Reikowski.
The Medium will release for PC and Xbox Series X Holiday 2020.
