The long road to launch for The Last of Us Part II has been especially rocky these past couple of months for Naughty Dog. The developer has come under fire for the intensity of its rumored crunch culture, and shortly following that, The Last of Us Part II was delayed indefinitely from its end-of-April release date, having already been delayed from February; and most recently, major parts of the game, including story elements, cutscenes, gameplay, and even the ending, were leaked online.
Yeah…things haven’t been good.
Despite the whirlwind of reactions from all the news and major leaks, The Last of Us Part II Director Neil Druckmann is keeping things optimistic for fans who’ve been waiting for this next chapter in Ellie and Joel’s journey for nearly seven years. “There have been some twists and turns,” Druckmann admitted on the PlayStation Blog, “but we’re so lucky to have had you with us every step of the way. Your enthusiasm and support means so much to everyone here at the studio.”
The official story trailer for The Last of Us Part II also accompanies the post. The trailer is nearly two and a half minutes long, and it highlights the game’s major themes of hate and revenge that Druckmann has been speaking about for years.
The Last of Us Part II will finally release on June 19th, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
