This morning Sony announced that a PlayStation 5 event would be held on Thursday, June 4th. The digital showcase will be a little more than an hour long and will be our first real look at the future of gaming on the PlayStation 5.
Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, penned more details on the official PlayStation blog:
“There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console,” Ryan wrote. “While this road to launch has been a bit…different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine to the future of videogames.”
The showcase, which is part of Sony’s series of PS5 updates, will give fans a first look at the games we’ll be able to play after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday season. Ryan also mentioned that studios- from the major devs to the independent studios, from the newer studios to those that are more established- have been working hard developing games for PS5. That being said, there’s a chance we’ll see both AAA and indie titles revealed next week.
In Ryan’s blog post, there is no mention of whether the company will show off the actual PS5 or the price points. That may be another event for a different time. This one looks to be highlighting the games only.
You can watch the PlayStation 5 digital showcase on Thursday, June 4th at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT. The show will be streamed on PlayStation’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
