Phil Spencer Defends Stylized Games, “We Will Build Games for All Gamers”

Yesterday, Xbox head Phil Spencer responded to Xbox fans’ questions over Twitter. One of them touched on backwards compatibility, which no one can deny Xbox has done well this generation; while another user addressed their concern that Xbox is lacking “mature” games that PlayStation 4 users will soon have, like God of War and Days Gone.

The tweet was undoubtedly prompted because of popular Xbox titles like Super Lucky’s Tale and the upcoming Sea of Thieves from Rarewhich have a more stylized rather than realistic look to them. “We will build games for all gamers,” Spencer wrote in response. Also, the release of those two Xbox games was all down to the timing. It doesn’t mean that Xbox is shifting its focus. Spencer also went on to remind everyone that State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 are on the way, and those are for a mature audience. While he hasn’t focused much on realistic/not realistic Xbox games, Spencer admits the question has given him something to think about going forward.

In response to a question about original Xbox games getting the backwards compatibility treatment, Spencer said those original games will be coming in “bigger blasts’ than those from the 360.
