Overwatch Halloween Terror 2020 Launches Today

Blizzard has announced that the Overwatch Halloween Terror in-game event will make its return on Tuesday, October 13. The announcement trailer shows spooky new skins for a variety of characters, including Ashe, D.Va, and Winston.

For those unfamiliar with the event, there are two major elements that draw Overwatch players back to Halloween Terror each year. The first one is the Junkenstein’s Revenge mode, where four players work together to defeat waves of AI-controlled enemies. The second is the wide variety of Halloween-themed skins for the game’s characters, which can be purchased with in-game credits or pulled from Halloween Terror loot boxes. Skins from previous Halloween Terror events will become available again during this time, so be sure to get any that you missed before this year’s iteration ends on November 3.

Overwatch may not command the same attention that it did when it initially launched in 2016, but it is still a very popular team-based shooter. The 2020 Overwatch League Grand Finals just wrapped up yesterday, with the San Francisco Shock winning their second straight championship. A few weeks ago, Activision Blizzard announced that the second week of the Overwatch League playoffs brought the highest viewership of the 2020 season.

Most Overwatch fans are looking ahead to Overwatch 2, which was announced during BlizzCon 2019. The sequel will include story-based single-player and co-op missions, which fans have been asking for since the first game launched. It will also include a graphics overhaul and a new multiplayer game mode, but those features will also be added to the original game to avoid fragmenting the player base. Blizzard has yet to reveal when the sequel will be released or how it will be priced.
