Next State of Play Announced for This Thursday

Over on the Playstation Blog, Sony has officially announced that their next State of Play will be happening this Thursday, August 6 at 1PM PT/4PM ET. The stream will be focusing on third-party titles that will be coming to PS4 and PSVR. There will also be some third-party PS5 games and indie titles that were shown during the PS5 reveal event in June.

The event will be running for over 40 minutes, featuring new gameplay and game updates for the titles that are shown. Sony was quick to set expectations for this event though, making it very clear that there will be no updates from Playstation Studios during the State of Play. In addition, there will be no talk in regards to hardware, pre-orders, dates, or business. This show is going to be strictly about the games that will be coming to the Playstation platform.

There have been rumors for quite some time now that Sony would be holding a new State of Play early this month. Most of these rumors speculated that the show would be focusing on the PS5 and more of the games that would be coming to the platform, as well as the price and release date of the console. While there could still be a PS5 focused event at a later date this month, it appears as if the rumors we had been hearing about were not entirely accurate.

It’s been a few months since there was an episode of State of Play. The last time we got one was in May. That episode was a much shorter one that focused entirely on The Last of Us Part II. It’s been even longer since we got an episode that focused on multiple games. That episode was last December and it featured the announcement of Resident Evil 3, the first gameplay of Platinum Games’ upcoming title, Babylon’s Fall, and the release date for Dreams.
