Pokémon news source Serebii has reported that Pokémon Go players across the globe are spotting a new, unidentified Pokémon. Today marks another Community Day for the mobile game produced by The Pokémon Company in partnership with Niantic. Each month, regions across the globe have a three-hour period to login the game for special Pokémon, rewards, and bonuses. This month’s Community Day is marked by a higher spawn rate of the generation two grass starter Chikorita, with an increased chance to catch its shiny variation. Alongside Chikorita’s increased spawn rate, players will receive 3X Catch XP and 3-hour Lures.
Shortly after Community Day ended in the Asia-Pacific region, players reported that a never-before seen Pokémon was spawning across the map. Moreover, the game does not provide any identification of the Pokémon, simply noting its name and CP with three question marks. However, after catching the mysterious monster, it would revert into another Pokémon, such as Ditto, Kecleon, or Evee.
This strange turn of events marks a historic moment for The Pokémon Company, serving as the first Pokémon reveal to occur over the popular mobile game. In fact, this uncharacteristic Pokémon reveal led fans to believe that this new Pokémon’s appearance was a glitch. However, the intentionality of this reveal was confirmed after Niantic’s Global Marketing Lead for Pokémon Go, Kento Suga, tweeted a picture of the Pokémon.
With the approaching release date of Pokémon: Lets Go, this strange Pokémon’s appearance is sure to cause excitement and speculation for Pokémon fans. The next installment of the Pokémon franchise takes players back to the Kanto region, allowing them to re-embark on the franchise’s first journey. Accordingly, fans are not expecting many new Pokémon to appear in the title. However, in the game’s initial trailer, The Pokémon Company teased that players would encounter one new, never-before seen Pokémon. Let’s Go’s integration with Pokémon Go leads us to wonder if this mysterious Pokémon is the previously teased monster.
With a quickly approaching November 17 release date, we are sure to see some more exciting Pokémon news in the coming months. Stay tuned to LoadingXP for more coverage.
