New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Content In The Works

If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you might have been wondering what Nintendo has planned for the game in the coming months. Well the company has confirmed on Twitter that in addition to a free update coming this week, they are indeed working on new content that’s planned for release later this year. Nintendo hasn’t stated what this new content they’re working on will be, but hopefully it’s enough to breathe life into the game, and bring players back to the surprise hit that absolutely dominated in sales last year.

When New Horizons first came out last year, it was followed by monthly events and free updates that continuously added new things to do to the game. But ever since the game’s one-year anniversary passed in March, things have been pretty quiet in the game. The big addition that month was a suite of Mario themed furniture items in celebration of that franchise’s 35th anniversary, but aside from that, the last new event was Festivale in February.

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t a game that’e meant to for long play sessions every day, there really isn’t much to do once you’ve customized your island the way you want. There are also players who lament the absence of features from previous games that have yet to appear. It’s all lead many players to drop off the game entirely since they have no reason to play, let alone check in every so often.

That said, it’s likely that the pandemic had an effect on the development team’s plans, just like it did across the gaming industry, causing the lack of updates in recent months. But with teams around the world now becoming more comfortable with a work-from-home environment, perhaps this next batch of content will be the start of a new, consistent stream of substantial updates for the game.
