MLB The Show 21 Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass Day One

Like a star player coming up to bat with the bases loaded, Xbox has hit a grand slam with the announcement that MLB The Show 21 will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it releases later this month. MLB Senior Vice President of Games & VR Jamie Leece made the announcement on the Xbox Wire blog this morning.

When MLB The Show 21 comes out, both the standard Xbox One version and the standard Xbox Series X|S versions of the game will be available through Xbox Game Pass. It doesn’t stop there though. If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you’ll be able to play the game on your mobile device through xCloud.

This is a huge deal for a number of reasons. On top of the fact that it’s yet another AAA title coming to Xbox Game Pass day one this month, it’s a Sony developed game that this is happening with. Sony San Diego has long been the exclusive developer of games in the MLB The Show series, and though they remain the developer, this is the first game that’ll be available for other platforms. On PlayStation, you’ll have to pay full price in order to play the game, but Xbox owners have the option of just subscribing to Game Pass to play the game.

It’s important to note that while Sony Interactive Entertainment is publishing MLB The Show 21 on PlayStation, the MLB is publishing the game on Xbox. With this knowledge, it would make sense that they’re the ones who made the decision for the game to be available through Game Pass day one, not Sony. No matter how you shake it though, it’s a major blow to Sony.

Microsoft’s been making headlines a lot recently. Last week we got word that the company was looking to purchase Discord for large sum of amount. And just a few days ago, they announced that backwards compatible titles would be coming to xCloud, with 16 currently available.
