Bethesda Game Studios is the subject of an investigation by Washington DC-based law firm Migliaccio & Rathod. The investigation focuses on their refund policy towards Fallout 76 consumers. Players were left with a bug ridden, almost unplayable experience, and on top of that, have been unable to get their money back.
This issue seems to be localised to PC gamers only who have downloaded the game and patch update. It’s unknown at this moment in time if console gamers may be affected by Bethesda’s apparently deceptive return policy too.
According to Migliaccio & Rathod, Bethesda have refused to issue refunds to consumers who bought Fallout 76 and since found it unplayable due to bugs and technical issues. Bethesda have a history of releasing buggy games, but Fallout 76 is arguably one of the worst culprits going above and beyond this trend, and has been slammed by critics for being almost consistently broken.
Whilst multiple users on Reddit have claimed that they were able to get refunds from Bethesda, many others have complained that the developer has reportedly stopped issuing refunds to unsatisfied customers.
Migliaccio & Rathod outlined their position on the investigation, paralegal Bruno Ortega-Toledo said: “While minor bugs and glitches are expected with the release of most new games, Fallout 76 launched with a 56GB patch that has proven to be but a starting point for the game’s problems.
“Gamers who have tried to receive a refund because of the game’s myriad glitches have been unable to do so since they downloaded the game, leaving them to deal with an unplayable experience until patches bring it back to a playable state.”
Migliaccio & Rathod is an experienced firm with a history in class action lawsuits regarding consumer rights, but as of yet, no formal action has been taken against Bethesda.
