Bethesda has announced that they will be making an Indiana Jones game in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
The announcement comes from a blog post courtesy of Lucasfilm games. Developed by Machine Games (Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus) and executive produced by Todd Howard, the game will be an “original, standalone tale” that takes place at the height of Indy’s career.
Over on Bethesda’s Twitter page, the company released a short teaser for the game.
It doesn’t appear to reveal much, as it only consists of the camera panning over a table covered in documents and equipment that Indy uses. Lucasfilm Games hints that the teaser may have some hidden clues about the game, so fans will have to channel their inner Indiana Jones to find the teaser’s secrets.
This is the first game announced by Lucasfilm Games following yesterday’s announcement of their rebranding. No platforms were given for the game, but there is a possibility that the game will be an Xbox exclusive given that Microsoft purchased Bethesda last year. We don’t know what exactly Microsoft plans to do in regards to making Bethesda’s future games exclusive, but having an exclusive Indiana Jones game would be a great get for the company.
It being exclusive to Xbox would also give Microsoft their own rival to Sony’s Uncharted franchise, a series that itself is inspired by Indiana Jones. On top of that, the Indiana Jones franchise is incredibly popular, so it’s already guaranteed to be a hit commercially. Combine that with the talent at Machine Games and the game should have no problem being a critical success as well. For now, we’ll just have to wait until the team has more to show us.
