ICYMI Skyrim is Free to Play on Xbox One and PC This Weekend

For anyone who’s yet to dive into Bethesda’s enormous, open-world RPG (how’s that possible?) this weekend is your chance, because the complete version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition will be free-to-play on Xbox One and PC for the first time ever.  As with other free games, you will need to be an Xbox Live Gold member in order to play. After the free trial expires, though, players can buy the game for a reasonable price.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim originally released in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The Special Edition of the game was released in October 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the new title included all of the DLCs, along with updated graphics for the current generation.

For those who will be playing the free trial of Skyrim on PC this weekend, the game will be available until 1:00pm PT/4:00pm EST tomorrow, September 10th. Xbox One users will be able to experience it for a few hours longer, as the trial will expire tomorrow at midnight PST/ 3am EST.

The Special Edition clocks in at around 22GB on Xbox One, so if you plan on diving into the game, it’s best to start downloading it now. While it’s a reasonable size compared to all the other games that have been releasing for Xbox One, it’s definitely a significant jump from the game’s small download size on Xbox 360.

The announcement of this free trial is kicking off Bethesda’s busy season. The company has three upcoming titles releasing throughout the rest of the year, including Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition, The Evil Within 2, and Wolfenstein 2. Not to mention Skyrim will be coming to the Nintendo Switch before the year is over.

Keep updated with all Bethesda news at LoadingXP, and let us know if you’re picking up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition this weekend.
