Horizon Zero Dawn Board Game Crushes Kickstarter Goal
A crowdfunding campaign for a board game adaptation of PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn launched a few days ago and has already surpassed its funding goal.
The Kickstarter for Horizon Zero Dawn – The Board Game, which is being developed by Steamforged Games, launched on September 6th and met its £155,000(approximately $200,000) funding goal in roughly two hours. The game is described as “a semi co-operative tactical action game” where 1-4 players hunt a variety of machines from Guerrilla Games’ Horizon universe. The campaign will wrap up on Friday, September 28th at 11:00am PDT, with a minimum pledge of £95(approximately $123) netting backers a Kickstarter-exclusive version of the game. The Limited Edition Seeker Pledge includes the following:
- Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game
- The Lawless Badlands Expansion
- The Sacred Land Expansion
- Kickstarter Exclusive Aloy model
- All Unlocked Stretch Goals
Backers also can also pledge additional money to receive a variety of expansions, including one based off of the PS4 game’s The Frozen Wilds DLC. Pledges will ship to most countries, and are currently scheduled for delivery in March 2020.
A demo playthrough of the game, which showcases prototype miniatures and gameplay mechanics, can be viewed below.
Steamforged games, the UK-based company that launched the campaign, has used Kickstarter to launch several board game projects. Their campaign for Dark Souls – The Board Game was particularly successful, and raised over $5 million in 2016. Steamforged also ran a campaign for a board game based off of Resident Evil 2, which is scheduled to ship to backers later this month.
The enthusiasm for Horizon Zero Dawn – The Board Game comes as no surprise. Sony announced back in February that Horizon Zero Dawn had sold over 7.6 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling exclusives on the PS4.
