At the very end of the PlayStation 5 Showcase, SIE President Jim Ryan gave viewers “one more quick look” in the form of a new God of War game announcement. It will release in 2021, but a more specific launch window wasn’t revealed. The short teaser showed snow blowing across the screen, with a blue version of the 2018 game’s omega symbol drawing in afterward. Kratos can be heard telling someone, presumably his son Atreus, that “you must prepare yourself.” And lastly, the words “Ragnarök is Coming” appear on-screen, followed by the 2021 date.
The new game will be the follow-up to Santa Monica Studio’s God of War, which was a massive critical and commercial success for Sony. Back in July, The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella revealed that the game was the second-best-selling PS4 exclusive in the United States, behind Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Sony finally revealed the price and release dates for the PS5 during the showcase earlier today. The standard and Digital Edition consoles will retail for $499.99 and $399.99 respectively and will launch on November 12 or November 19, depending on the territory.
