Gears 5 Dev Making New Projects On Unreal Engine 5
Gears 5 developer The Coalition will be using Unreal Engine 5 for future projects. The company took to the Gears 5 website to make the announcement in a blog post.
“As we look to future games, we’re excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5.” The team notes that the Gears franchise has always been a leader when it comes to game development with the Unreal Engine, something they intend to continue over the coming years with Unreal Engine 5. While it stands to reason that we’ll be getting more entries in the Gears franchise, it’s possible that The Coalition could also be working on new ideas as well.
The team also confirmed that in the coming years, they will be making “multiple new projects” with Unreal Engine 5. With this new game engine requiring time to adjust to, The Coalition affirmed that they won’t be making any new announcements “for some time.” Seeing as how Gears 5 came out in the middle of 2019, I don’t think anyone would have expected a new game from the team within the next year or two, but it’s good that the team got ahead of any speculation that the internet would like have started.
Although The Coalition is starting to move on to new games for Xbox Series S and X, they aren’t dropping Gears 5 just yet. More operations will release throughout Operations 7 and 8, and the game will continue to receive playlist and content updates for the in-game store for the rest of the year.
The Coalition is an incredibly talented team, with Gears 5 being one of the best looking games of the past generation. I can’t wait to see what they’re able to do with Unreal Engine 5 once they have some time to play around with it and learn how it make the best of it. In the mean time, if you want to play some classic Gears of War on the go, Microsoft recently added backwards compatible titles to their Xbox Cloud Gaming service, so you can take Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 with you and play wherever.
