FOX21 Secures Rights for Vampyr TV Series

Revealed in a press release today, FOX21 has secured the rights to DONOTNOD and Focus Home Interactive’s Vampyr, for Wonderland Sound & Vision and DJ2 Entertainment to adapt the hit RPG for television; and based on the statement from DJ2’s CEO, it sounds like this deal has been in the works before the game even released.

Released this past June, the game is set in the early 20th century London, where the flu is spreading across the city. You play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a newly-turned vampyr, who must use his abilities to either help the ill citizens around the city, or manipulate and kill them for their blood. In true DONTNOD fashion, your choices have consequences and ultimately shape the city for better or worse.

Vampyr is just the latest of DONTNOD’s games to be coming to the small screen. Back in 2016, Square Enix and Legendary Entertainment revealed Life is Strange was being turned into a life action show for streaming services, in conjunction with DJ2.

In reference to Vampyr, DONTNOD’s CEO Oskar Guilbert commented on the new deal with FOX21, saying, “We believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show. This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with Vampyr’s rich, deep story. We cannot wait to see how the talented team at FOX21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television.”

Focus Interactive’s CEO Jurgen Goeldner chimes in as well saying, “We are delighted to partner with FOX21 for the adaption of Vampyr into a tv series. DONTNOD has created a uniquely dark, immersive world with deep narration, which has made Vampyr already a modern video game classic. We cannot wait to see FOX21 bring all of their talent and experience in launching a TV show that will allow an even wider audience to discover the fantastic universe of Vampyr.

On a similar note, DJ2’s CEO also chimed in, saying “The DJ2 team loves the creative vision DONTNOD & Focus devote to all of their projects. The great relationship we’ve built with them since partnering on their incredible game Life is Strange allowed us to get on board for Vampyr well before its release.”

Let us know what you think of Vampyr coming to television. Who could play Dr. Jonathan Reid?

Tori is originally from Rapture but now she lives in Chicago. She enjoys open world RPGs, a good narrative-driven game, and is probably the only person still watching The Walking Dead.
